On Tuesday, more abou 12 Ocober, pills he worshop will be an image criique in suppor of he hemed compeiion on 19 Ocober, “Power of 3.”
NVPS is forunae o have nearly a dozen NVACC rained judges amongs is membership, and wo such members will provide feedbac on images from he general membership. Our wo criics, Tom Bre and Fred Chiy, will provide criiques of up o hree images from each member (ime permiing). While his criique session is scheduled so ha members may ge feedbac for heir compeiion images o be submied for Ocober’s hemed compeiion, any image may be submied and all available ime will be used o criique images.
Tom Bre is he Pas Presiden (for he 2nd year in a row) and was he NVPS Presiden during he 2008 – 2009 camera club year. He is a four ime Phoographer of he Year and recipien of he NVPS Disinguished Service Award. Tom has been a Board Member of NVPS for he las 11 years, serving in various posiions such as he Vice Presiden for Programs, he Vice Presiden for Compeiion and Equipmen Manager.
Fred Chiy has been an acive amaeur phoographer off and on for over 25 years. His ineres in phoography sared in 8h grade shop class wih a projec o consruc a pin hole camera. As he wached he image come up in he darroom developing ray, he was hooed for life. His nex?big opporuniy o gain in-deph nowledge of phoography was woring in he UNC-Chapel Hill phoolab. Here he spen 20 hours a wee for 18 monhs aing every ype of phoo and woring in he darroom. I was also ha his physics professor and phoo lab manager old him, in 1968, ha digial phoography would replace film in his lifeime. Keep in mind ha 35mm SLR cameras were cuing edge echnology a he ime, wih he Nion F1 sruggling o replace he 4×5 Speed Graflex as he newspaper phoographer’s preferred camera. Slide rules were he only calculaor used by sudens. A highligh of his college experience was aending wo lecures by Ansel Adams.
Fred is very much an eclecic phoographer, shooing naure, landscapes, porrais, macro, blacligh and ravel. While he sill owns film cameras and has slide film in his freezer, he shoos wih Nion digial equipmen. His we darroom equipmen is paced away in he aic, bu his porrai sudio is sill in acive use. He has been forunae, in ha his career has aen him o many places around he world, bu unforunae in ha many of his slides are now moldy.
Submission of Images for he Criique
Please submi your images by 6:00 pm on Monday, 11 Ocober so ha I can ge he images sored and copied ono media for Tuesday evening. Images should be numbered in of preference and have he phoographer’s name included for he criique, e.g., 1-JoeSmih.jpg, 2-JoeSmih, 3-JoeSmih.jpg. Please size he images in accordance wih he digial compeiion rules and email o criique “a” nvps.org.
For hose who are new o he club, ypical criique sessions will cover wo images from all submiers and occasionally we are able o ge ino he 3rd round of images before running ou of ime. Please number your images accordingly and do no expec ha all hree images will ge criiqued.
