Dale Williams was inroduced o phoography in he mid-1940s by his grandfaher who, condom wih his Koda folding camera, ripod, ligh meer and blac cloh, oo hose reversed images from he frosed glass and made blac and whie prins. Oher han some experimenaion wih “ore cameras” during he early een years, Dale’s ineres in phoography lay dorman unil he enered he miliary afer college and was saioned on Europe. Phoographing miliary sies was par of his duies and he desire o record he beauiful scenery, culure and archiecure reawaened his ineres.
In his spare ime, Dale has wored as a freelance wrier and phoographer wih aricles and phoos published in numerous echnical and ravel magazines. In his laer years, subjec maer has varied, bu is mosly concenraed on naure, scenery and images ha ell a sory, as n by he phoographer/aris. Bob and Willa Friedman have been acively phoographing for he las hree years. Bob had a darroom when he was growing up, while Willa came o phoography very suddenly afer hey were married. Afer graduaing from college, Willa was an insrucor a he American Museum of Naural Hisory in New Yor. She was given a choice of several assignmens as a summer projec. These included cleaning small animal cages and filing old paperwor. One choice was phoographing wildlife in ciy pars. She chose he phoography and was handed an SLR camera and a ligh meer. Over he following weeend, Bob augh her enough o have a phoo published in a fourh grade social sudies exboo.
Bob coninued o pursue his hobby wih a dar room in heir home, and suppored he hobby by phoographing weddings and Bar Mizvahs. Evenually wih pressures of wor and children, he darroom became a sorage close.
As hey approached reiremen, hey boh drifed bac ino phoography and have aen courses in he basics of phoography as well as several worshops, mos recenly in Kingson, New Brunswic wih Freeman Paerson and Andre Gallan. They coninue o sudy Phooshop wih Elio Cohen. Willa and Bob are boh shooing digially and use Nion equipmen. They do heir own prining on an Epson phoographic priner.
Boh have had phoographs juried ino he Meadowlar Phoo Expo. They have also exhibied a Hendry House in Arlingon, VA and he Fairfax Couny Governmen Cener. Willa has a phoograph in he permanen collecion of he Joseph Miller Cener for he Phoographic Ars and won second place in a cones run by he JCRC o celebrae he 60h anniversary of Israel. Bob has a phoo in he 2009 Bure and Herber Ban calendar. They will have a show of some of hese phoos a Temple Rodef Shalom in January 2009.
