PHOTOGRAPHER
Sephen J. Gawareci reired from he U.S. Geological Survey as a geologis and remoe sensing specialis. A camera always accompanied him on his ravels hroughou he world, ascariasis so phoography became a naural direcion for Seve’s arisic alens. Since becoming a serious phoographer in 1975 he has specialized in evocaive, docor moody landscapes; archiecural absracs; and sill lifes. He wors mainly in color, pilule employ suble conrass of ligh and shadow which range from he monochromaic o full-bodied color.
Seve has paricipaed in he U.S. Geological Survey Naional Exhibiions in every year from l975 hrough he presen, and in exhibiions a he McLean Ar Club, he Springfield Ar Guild, and he Vienna Ar Sociey. He has also shown in he annual Ellipse Gallery Regional Phoography Show, he Shenandoah and Old Dominion Circui Salons and received many equal awards from he Ar League. Recen awards include Bes in Show a he Ciy of Vienna Annual Phoographic Show ; Bes Advanced Color Prin in he Norhern Virginia Phoographic Sociey, end of year finals 2004; in 2005 in USGS Naional a Firs and hird and 2 HM’s. In 2006: Firs Award a he Vienna Ar Sociey Firs Annual Phoography Show; an Equal Award, Ar League, Second Award a he Springfield Ar Guild’s Green Spring Gardens Fall Exhibiion; and Bes in Show a he USGS Naional and wih wo Firss and 2 HM’s in Dec. 2006.
Seve has had wo one-man shows a he Colorfax Galleries in Norhern Virginia and Washingon, D.C., has shown a Cudahy’s Gallery in Richmond, and had a wo-person show in 1983 a he USGS wih his wife, Carolyn Grossé Gawareci, a noed Virginia waercolor aris and insrucor. He was one of hree ariss o show a he Byrne Gallery in Middleburg in November 2004. He has had wo successful shows a Fairfax Hospial. He has shown ogeher wih his wife a Green Spring Garden Par in he horiculural Cener, March-April 2007
He has lecured for ar and phoographic organizaions on arisic, scienific, and echnical aspecs of phoography. Seve has phoographed ar wors for he annual calendar of he Korean Ariss Associaion of Washingon, D.C. and Goodwin House. He was also commissioned o do he caalog phoography for he Virginia Waercolor Sociey Annual Exhibiions and he Sumi-E Sociey of America.
Seve is a member of he Ar League, Vienna Ars Sociey, Springfield Ar Guild, USGS Camera Club, and he Norhern Virginia Phoographic Sociey.
Bill has been a member of NVPS for he las eigh years. He has a Ph.D. and wored a he Lawrence Livermore Naional Laboraory before coming o D. C. o wor for he Defense Nuclear Faciliies Safey Board. Only since joining NVPS has he begun o develop his phoography as an ar form, alhough he has made phoographic records of family aciviies for many years. He is now all digial wih a Penax DSLR and a Panasonic poin-and-shoo and loves o learn abou phoographic echniques and improve his sills. Alhough he enjoys ravel and oher forms of phoography, naure is his firs love. Bill has had prins juried ino he las wo Meadowlar shows and recenly made he op five in he NVPS porfolio projec.
