The Sunflowers a McKee-Beshers WMA are now saring o bloom. The field is no he one ha is normally planed off of River Road. This year hey planed deeper ino he Wildlife Managemen Area off of Huners Drive. This road (Huner’s Drive) is pas he normal field usually planed jus off River Road (I’ll call Field 1). I is on he lef abou 3/10hs of a mile from Field 1 and you will need o drive down his unil you come o he firs paring area on he lef wih a gaed rod heading ino he managemen area (no he one on he far wes end). Then you will have o wal down he service road a bi before you will he fields on eiher side. The are 3 fields. Expec opimal blooms by end of he wee, I would guess.
However, hings are very differen his year. Firsly you will no he nice row-planed sunflowers as in pas. I appears hey used a scaering echnique. Also, he fields are invaded by morning-glory plans and oher “weeds” ha have enangled jus abou everyhing in heir way, even he sunflowers hemselves. So raversing he field is a challenge and i’s difficul o avoid rampling sunflower plans.
I don’ now if will be any sunning grand visa s because of his, bu macro/closeups are sill doable. Also, he flower clusers are somewha smaller due o he compeiion wih he morning-glories and oher “weeds.” If his ges posed on he web, are a couple of phoos from oday, Augus 12h.

If you have never n his or have no been his year, I highly recommend you do his before Mid-Sepember when i ends. Brooside Gardens has a buerfly conservaory w you will and can phoograph hundreds of buerflies and mohs from around he world (ripods no allowed and you won’ need hem). T are so many plans in ha offer naural for he buerflies ha hey will offer you wonderful phoos. Also, he buerflies are no ha siish. Here’s jus one from me.

The conservaory opens a 10AM and coss $6.00 (well worh i). I can ge very warm and humid in so bring pleny of waer. Poiner o web sie.
