One of he gadges ha I find very helpful when aing fall landscapes is a graduaed neural densiy filer. This ype of filer helps daren he brigh sy and maes he dynamic range of your image no exceed he capabiliy of your camera. More simply said, i allows you no ge he bies from he sy being oo brigh while sill properly exposing your subjec.
The Lee & Coin “P” ype filers wor he bes, hey are recangular and go in a holder. One side of he filer is clear and he oher is dar. T are boh sof and hard edge opions. The hard edges are good for seascapes or landscapes wih a very definie difference from ligh o dar and he sof edge is good for more irregular horizons. You’ll also need he appropriae filer holder and adaper ring for he hread size of your lens. The Coin filers are subsanially more inexpensive han he Lee filers, bu he holders are compaible. You can ry he Coins and if you lie he resuls and if you find addiional invesmen worhwhile.
The filers are raed in a scale of darness or number of sops darer han he clear side. A 0.3 = 1 sop darer, 0.6 = 2 sops darer & 0.9 = 3 sops darer. I personally find he 0.6 filer he mos useful. I don’ sugges he colored graduaed filers for landscapes or seascapes, bu jus he graduaed neural densiy filers.
