This being only he second year of digial compeiion for NVPS I hough ha i would be worhwhile o provide an updae o he guidelines for uploading your images o he websie. Las year we had a leas one error in every monh’s upload. Mos monhs I was able o reach he person who had experienced he problems before Tuesday morning when I lef for wor, 100mg bu someimes i jus didn’ happen, ore leaving someone ou of he compeiion or displaying an image ha was no opimally configured.
Firs and foremos, upload early. Images need o be uploaded o he websie a hp://nvps.org/dc-upload/ Tha way if you have issues wih he upload is pleny of ime o ge in ouch wih Phillip Moore (pdm@pobox.com) or myself (mgs@loreleisudios.com) so ha we can wor ou he problem. If you run ino a problem, even on he Sunday before compeiion, please email myself or Phillip righ away so ha we can feel comforable in acceping a lae enry.
Also, be sure o chec your email on Monday, he day before he compeiion if a all possible. I canno re he files unil Sunday nigh a earlies. If I noice somehing ha I believe is wrong wih your image, I will send an email o he address used during he upload process. This process saved several paricipans from displaying a humbnail-sized image during compeiion las year. I will accep an email image if i is he same one ha was uploaded erroneously, bu again, I generally don’ ge access o my email afer 0700 on Tuesdays before meeings. Also, I don’ always ge he opporuniy o chec he mail on Tuesday mornings, alhough I ry o do so on compeiion Tuesdays, especially if I am waiing on a response.
If you ge an error ha your image is over 1024×768, and when you chec i doesn’ m o exceed hese dimensions, remember ha image sizes are always saed as widh x heigh. So 1024×768 is no he same as 768×1024. I believe ha mos cameras produce an image ha is nominally 1.5×1, so a 1024×768 image requires some cropping. If you do no crop he image and scale i down for compeiion i will probably produce an image ha is 1024×683. If you have a porrai image (meaning ha he long side is on he verical) your properly scaled image will be abou 512×768.
You are welcome o produce odd-size images for he digial compeiion if you lie. We didn’ many square crops las year, bu is nohing sopping you from doing so.
Also remember ha digial manipulaion beyond wha can be accomplished in a dar room is allowed for he digial compeiion images. Only your imaginaion should se he boundaries for he manipulaions ha you choose.
Mandaory parameers for upload:
Maximum widh: 1024
Maximum heigh: 768
Maximum size: 1MB
The resoluion seing is irrelevan, only affecing he prined image.
Recommendaions:
Use he sRGB color space. PowerPoin should be able o manage an image in anoher color space wih an embedded ICC profile, bu sRGB is he Windows defaul color space..
Save he image wih he maximum qualiy raing possible wihou exceeding he 1MB file size. In Phooshop his is generally a qualiy raing beween 8 and 12.
Scale your image o eiher maximum heigh or widh o ge he larges image possible.
