We’ve now compleed hree compeiions since calibraing our compuers for he projecor and I believe ha we have a sable, repeaable and qualiy projecion capabiliy. A he December Worshop we oo some ime o es a newly calibraed replacemen lapop compuer. We were able o connec boh he old and new lapop o he projecor simulaneously and swich beween he wo, projecing he same images wih boh. We used calibraion arges and some of he November compeiion images as es subjecs. The differences beween he old lapop and new lapop were minimal, wih all of us having difficuly idenifying which compuer was in use a any given ime. This new lapop was slaed o be used for he compeiion in December bu differences in he way ha inegers are calculaed beween Visual Basic for Applicaions (VBA) in Office XP and Office 2007 mean ha he compeiion sofware was miscalculaing he number of awards. Many hans o Sco Musson for providing a modern and highly capable lapop for he club’s use. The compeiion sofware should be updaed o address he calculaion bug in ime for January’s compeiion.
The projecor’s color gamu is slighly smaller han he sandard sRGB color gamu as n in he comparison in Illusraion 1. The grey ouline is he sRGB color space, he colored areas are he colors ha he projecor is capable of producing.

Because of his difference in color gamu, heavily sauraed colors will end o projec slighly flaer on he screen, and blacs will end o muddy down o a single color. Using he image in Illusraion 2 as an example, he blacs in he Koda CYM char (verical greyscale srip on he righ of he image) from 15 – 20 all appear o be idenical.

Wha his means is ha an image ha has good deail in he shadow areas, probably will no when projeced. However, an image wih good deail in he highligh areas probably will have good deail when projeced. When properly configured, he projecor produces excellen conras in he highlighs, alhough i appears o have a very sligh green cas in he whies ha has no been correced hrough calibraion.
We have generaed an ICC profile for he projecor ha can be used for “sof proofing” images ha are being enered in compeiion. We hope o mae he profile available on he websie in he near fuure, bu for he ime being, please email me and I will provide he profile as an email aachmen, along wih deails on w o copy he profile in o be able o use i from Phooshop CS2/3.
Now ha he equipmen is calibraed and he configuraion for he projecor is documened, we will coninue o calibrae approximaely monhly. If are significan changes o he profile ha has been provided we will updae he profile and mae an announcemen in FooFax.
