San Klem has been an acive member of he Silver Spring Camera Club since 1981. Over he years San has served as SSCC presiden (1984-85 and 2005-07), populaion healh direcor (1986-89 and 2003-07), websie newsleer edior (1983-85 and 2003-05), and program cperson (2006-08). In he mid-1990’s San and fellow club member Jim Malaro expanded SSCC’s aciviies by launching a digial imaging worshop, which inroduced SSCC members o he ar of elecronic image manipulaion. Three years laer San sared a separae digial worshop specifically for beginners. And in he las 15 years San also inroduced he club o concep of mini-porfolios. In gis, San would selec abou wo dozen images along wih some biographic informaion of a senior club member and presen he images o he membership as 10-minue ribues. San fel ha his exercise would help he membership gain a fuller undersanding of how heir fellow phoographers ed and experienced his visual world.
In club compeiions San’s focus was almos enirely on color slides, and his subjec maer was predominanly porraiure, followed by close-ups, naure, and experimenal. In he his firs 10 years wih he club, San was awarded SSCC Phoographer of he Year in Advanced Slides hree imes and achieved he honor of SSCC Maser of Phoographer in 1991.
In he 80’s and early 90’s San phoographed weddings and porrais in his spare ime, and in he mid-90’s he joined he Grea Exposure Phoo Gallery in Savage Mills, MD as one of is founding members.
For mos of his professional career (39-1/2 years) San wored as a publicaions manager and edior wih he U.S. Deparmen of Sae in Washingon, DC. He reired in January 2008. Apar from ending o much-needed home fix-up and repairs he hopes o devoe more ime o phoography, ravel, and possibly eaching.
